Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) Data Analyst

Role Overview 

The MERL Data Analyst will be responsible for all MERL activities, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to track program performance, measure impact, and inform strategic decision-making on the YAPPI project. This role is integral to ensuring the success of YAPPI’s goals and maintaining transparency and accountability in program delivery.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and enhance monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) frameworks and procedures for effective project tracking.
  2. Monitor all project activities, expenditures, and outputs to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
  3. Recommend improvements to the project’s logical framework and implementation approach.
  4. Design and implement data collection tools to capture quantitative and qualitative program data.
  5. Track and analyze project performance using key indicators and impact tracking tools.
  6. Provide regular feedback to the Project Manager on implementation strategies and effectiveness.
  7. Identify implementation bottlenecks and propose strategies to improve efficiency and project outcomes.
  8. Compile and submit detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual M&E reports to stakeholders and management.
  9. Conduct capacity assessments and support the development of M&E tools and methodologies.
  10. Maintain a secure and up-to-date database of student performance, engagement, and attendance.
  11. Analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improving program delivery and impact.
  12. Develop dashboards, infographics, and visual reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  13. Present evaluation findings and recommendations to program teams, senior leadership, and partners.
  14. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent data collection and sharing across the project.
  15. Contribute to strategic planning by providing data-driven insights and evidence-based recommendations.

Key Qualifications and Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of proven experience as a Data Analyst, preferably within the education, nonprofit, or creative industries.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, Python, R, or SQL.
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization platforms like Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) data handling and management.
  • Experience in Knowledge Management is a significant advantage.
